Rolex is the first luxury watch brand which would pop up into any watch enthusiast’s mind . Wearing a Rolex shows success , class and for those self made fellows it plays that Drake song in the background ” started from the bottom now we here ” . Whether Rolex watches are simply a status symbol, or is there more to it? , the question how ever remains the same ” Why is Rolex so Expensive”
Since 1905 till date Rolex has proved its mettle and is the most sought after luxury watch brand. From Sir Edmund Hillary while summiting Mount Everest to tennis star Roger Federer , all most every celebrity has flaunted Rolex on their wrist at one point in their careers.
Obviously this sought after luxury brand does not come cheap . Rolex watch starts from anywhere around $10,000 to Paul Newman’s ‘Exotic’ Rolex Daytona 6329 auctioned at $17 million in 2017.
Now a basic question which comes into any sane person’s mind would be “ why Rolex watches are so expensive ” that too when there is no call receiving or steps counting facility like many smart watches available in the market .
So here i have prepared a list of 5 points which justifies that ” Why is Rolex so expensive”
5 Reasons why Rolex is so Expensive .
1. Rolex produces its own gold .
Rolex is the only watch maker in the world which produces their own gold. Rolex usually refinesĀ 24K goldĀ into 18K yellow, white, or rose Gold for their products.
2. A massive team of gemologists.
To make sure they always present top-notch luxury watches to consumers, Rolex uses a massive team of gemologists. These specialists assist in purchasing, testing, and setting precious materials, including gold and diamond, onto various luxurious models.
3. Hand made Exclusivity .
Rolex like any other watch company uses robots and machines for production but they rely more on humans when it comes to precision and accuracy . All Rolex models are manually checked and tested before being sent for chronometer certification .
4. Use of 904L Steel .
Rolex use stainless 904L steel type. This steel type is much stronger and shinier than the normal 316L steel, which is commonly used by other watchmakers. Rolex is probably the only watch company to use 904L steel. 904L stainless steel is not only expensive but also hard to make.
5. You cannot buy a Rolex , You have to EARN it .
Buying a Rolex is a patience game. Someone cannot just go and buy a Rolex , there is a waiting time of more than 6 months for any Rolex model . Rolex like any other luxury item cannot be mass produced , after all its not luxury if its readily available and thats the reason they only produce around 800,000 watches in a year .
