Gautam Adani’s early life :-
Adani was born on 24 June 1962 to a middle-class Gujarati Baniya family in Ahmedabad , Gujarat. He did his schooling at Seth C.N Vidayalaya School in Ahmedabad , later on he went to Gujarat University to pursue B.com where he dropped out after the second year.
Adani’s entrepreneurial spirit made him leave Ahmedabad and move to Mumbai when he was 18 . He began working as a diamond sorter at Mahindra brothers and set up his own diamond brokerage business after a couple of years . His Business did well and he became a millionaire by the time he was 20.
In Ahmedabad, Gautam’s elder brother Mansukhbhai Adani bought a plastics unit in 1981 and invited him to manage operations. This venture turned out to be Adani’s gateway to global trading via Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) imports.

In 1988, he established Adani Exports Limited (now known as the Adani Enterprises Ltd). The company initially dealt in agricultural commodities and power and eventually expanded over the years. In 1993, the Government of Gujarat invited private companies to run the Mundra Port and in 1995 Adani won the contract. It was initially operated by Mundra Port & Special Economic Zone Ltd which was later expanded into the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ). It is today India’s largest private multi-port operator.
Adani group as of 2022 , now comprises of seven publicly listed companies with businesses across sectors of energy, ports & logistics, mining & resources, gas, defence & aerospace and airports. The seven listed companies under the group are Adani Enterprises Ltd, Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd, Adani Total Gas Ltd, Adani Green Energy Ltd, Adani Transmission Ltd, Adani Power Ltd and Adani Wilmar. The group’s unit is India’s largest port operator handling 312 million metric tonnes of cargo (as per 2022 data), the largest private airport player with seven airports under management and rights for one more under construction.
